Flip flops, are they good or bad?

The 2012 National Foot Health Assessment reported that 78% of adults experience foot pain at some point in their lives; frequency of flip flop wear played a factor in the results.

Flip flops do not offer extensive support, resulting in a higher incidence of ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis and tendonitis. The thin, flexible soles provide poor cushioning for the heel, lack of arch support and reduced shock absorption.

However, for people with a neutral arch and who are more used to bare foot activity, flip flops may cause fewer or no problems at all, but instead provide a comfortable and suitable form of footwear.
