Running; this activity provides your entire body with an effective work out, including your bones, your muscles, your lungs and your heart. Not to mention its ability to increase your metabolism which provides fat burn and weight loss.
Running helps to improve circulation, increase lung capacity and reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and high blood pressure. Greater circulation means greater transport of nutrients around your body, resulting in the removal of waste products which can enhance skin complexion!
If performed regularly this exercise can result in increased joint strength and stability through the building of lean muscle and an increase in bone density. This helps to lower the risk of osteoporosis as bones are stimulated to become stronger.
Additionally, running has been shown to enhance mood and increase self esteem due to the release of endorphins. It can also improve sleep patterns and reduce anxiety.
Remember that any running or training should be undertaken safely; make sure you seek advice regarding technique, stretching and nutrients. If you are unsure if running is the right thing for you, see your GP first.
