Ankle Sprain Rehabilitation

Ankle injuries often require the standard PRICE regime:

  • Protect
  • Rest
  • Ice
  • Compression
  • Elevation

However, if your sprain is more severe you may also require crutches for the initial period following your injury. Some injuries will require further immobilisation for 2-3 weeks in order to provide support and protection to your ankle, allowing it to heal.

Severe sprains can lead to re-occurring injuries such as repetitive sprains, chronic pain, chronic instability and arthritis.
