Does Whiplash Exist?

There is a lot of skepticism surrounding Whiplash claims, but in our experience, Whiplash is a very real injury and can cause people a lot of pain and dysfunction.

It is classified as a neck injury caused by a sudden movement of the head forwards, backwards or sideways. A common cause for Whiplash is a road traffic incident. At Jonathan Clark Physiotherapy in Southampton we routinely treat in excess of 30 cases of Whiplash a week.

The key to recovery is keeping yourself moving, painkillers and anti-inflammatories, holding a good posture, a supportive pillow, the use of heat and exercises as directed by your Physiotherapist.

Alongside the above self-care, certain hands on Physiotherapy treatments such as massage, manual therapy, acupuncture, kinesiology taping and manipulations are all proven to be effective in speeding up recovery.

To summarise, Whiplash is very real yet very treatable. Time is a healer and this can be expedited with the correct management approach, such as what we provide at Jonathan Clark Physiotherapy.
